Der Freischütz
opera by K. M. Weber
  • Dmitry Otyakovsky
    stage director
Der Freischütz is not a frequent guest on the stages of Russian theaters. It was all the more interesting to work on the performance in the open air format for the All together Opera festival. The grounds for the premiere were chosen as the garden in front of the Elaginoostrovsky Palace, a picturesque meadow surrounded by trees, flowerbeds and lilac clumps. It's even possible to talk about the site specificity of our production, because it was not transferred from the stage of the theater, but was created specifically for the performance in that location.

The production was directed and staged in the traditionalist style because we wanted to present a little-known opera to the audience in a reading that was as close to the author's as possible. Oliver Weder, the Principal Conductor of the Thuringian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, was the musical director of the production. The German maestro's work on the German opera made it possible to carefully convey all the musical and dramaturgical nuances encoded in the score.
